Chess.com is excited to launch the Variants Community Series (VCS), a series of events and competitions for streamers and our dedicated and growing variants community. Every two months, we’ll be featuring a different variant for you to discover, learn, and enjoy while also rewarding the best players through community arenas, streamer arenas, and championship events—with prize money and gifted subs at stake!

So whether you’re a variants veteran or just starting to explore the wide world variants, there’s no better time than now to engage with all the countless ways that chess can be played!

The Variants Community Series kicks off in September and continues into October with King Of The Hill, where the first king to occupy the center wins—but getting checkmated still loses! Beginning on September 7, there will be six arena tournaments held weekly on Thursdays, followed by a Championship event with a $1,000 first-place prize. The third and final weekly arenas will feature gifted subs as prizes, and the championship will have cash prizes. Players can qualify for the championship through all of the arenas.
