GM Ian Nepomniachtchi won the 2022 Candidates Tournament with a round to spare, as he did in the previous Candidates.
With GM Hikaru Nakamura’s victory in round 13, he is in sole second place. All eyes will be on his game against GM Ding Liren in the final round, as the fight for runner-up has more riding on it than usual—a chance to play in the 2023 World Championship in the event that GM Magnus Carlsen decides to forfeit his title.
The final round begins at 6 a.m. Pacific/15:00 Central European on Monday, July 4.
