Caruana is one of the strongest and most successful players of the last two decades. Currently the world number two, he has also achieved the third-highest peak rating in history and is one of the few players who managed to qualify for the Candidates Tournament four times. In 2018, Caruana won the Candidates and drew 12 games against GM Magnus Carlsen before losing the World Championship match on tiebreaks—an episode that inspired Carlsen to single him out as his toughest World Championship opponent. Caruana’s most recent success came earlier this week when he won his third U.S. Championship title.
