Sports fans, mark your calendars for December 13 at 10:30 a.m. PT/19:30 CET. It’s the crossover event you won’t want to miss: Gordon Hayward vs. Larry Fitzgerald… fans included! These two big-time chess fans and star athletes will be playing in an arena tournament, and afterward, they will play a two-game mini-match against each other.

Maybe you watched PogChamps or BlitzChamps and said to yourself: I wish I could play in one of these! Well, if you’ve ever had the desire to play a star athlete in chess, this will be your chance. It’s bound to be a fun tournament and match, whether you decide to play, or just watch on Hayward’s Twitch channel.

Gordon Hayward is an NBA player for the Charlotte Hornets. An All-Star in 2017 for the Utah Jazz, he signed a $128 million contract with the Boston Celtics later that year. He has created content with IM Levy Rozman and appeared on the Chess.com broadcast of the 2021 World Championship.

Larry Fitzgerald previously played in BlitzChamps and spent 17 years as a star wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, where he set numerous NFL records while being named to 11 Pro Bowls. A surefire future Hall of Famer, he’s been playing chess for years as well.
