The second round of the 2022 Tata Steel Chess Tournament starts at 5 a.m. PT/14:00 CET on Sunday, January 16. This is the first classical chess tournament for GM Magnus Carlsen since he retained his world championship title in November. Don’t miss the action as he attempts to break the 2900 rating mark!

The second round has many exciting matchups to look forward to. Carlsen will have the white pieces against GM Anish Giri, one of the tournament leaders GM Vidit Gujrathi will face GM Fabiano Caruana, and GM Sergey Karjakin has the white pieces against GM Daniil Dubov—these two Russian superstars will be facing each other for the first time since Dubov was criticized for being on Carlsen’s team for the 2021 FIDE World Championship.
