The first round of the 2022 Tata Steel Chess Tournament starts at 5 a.m. PT/14:00 CET on Saturday, January 15. This will be the first classical chess tournament for GM Magnus Carlsen since he retained his world championship title in November. Don’t miss the action as he attempts to break the 2900 rating mark!

The first round is exciting from the get-go as Carlsen will immediately get a chance to take revenge for last year’s loss against GM Andrey Esipenko, although the world champion again has black in what is only their second classical encounter.
