Texas Tech continues to have success on the chessboard.
Two Tech chess members are in the national top 10 players list in the nation, according to the U.S. Chess Federation.
Alex Onischuk, Tech’s program coach, is ranked fifth, and Yaroslav Zherebukh, a Tech student, is ranked eighth, according to a release from Tech.
Zherebukh has led Tech to third-place in the Final Four of College Chess two years in a row, the release said.
In August, the Knight Raiders program director, Al Lawrence, will receive the USCF Distinguished Service Award, according to the release.
